Around one million homes in four years: Spain’s People’s Party (PP) wants to bring them to market to make housing easier to find. Party spokesman Borja Sémper set out the proposal on Friday, 16 October, during a visit to Tenerife in the Canary Islands. He accused the Spanish government of neglecting housing for the past eight years.

Sémper called the government’s decree-laws piecemeal fixes. The problem needs a wider policy that will take time, he said, but the priority is to build more homes. Without a bigger supply, he argued, other measures will not work.

The PP also proposes tax measures, including the possibility of public guarantees as an incentive. Its plan remains a proposal: Sémper did not say the homes were already being built.
