Mallorca: PP tourism cap call falls in Palma vote

The PP stood alone as its call for tighter tourism controls was voted down in Palma on 17 September. The opposition voted as a bloc against the proposal in the Tourism, Culture, Sports, Labour, Public Administration and Social Dialogue Committee.

The PP wanted Spain’s central government to apply the same tourism-containment criteria defended by the Balearic regional government. It also called for Madrid and the regional administration to coordinate their approach, avoiding clashes over the tourism model.

The proposal further demanded that state tourism promotion should match the sustainability message of the government led by Marga Prohens.

IB3 programme request also rejected

The committee also rejected most of a PSIB motion seeking the continuation of IB3’s programme Jo en sé + que tu. PP and Vox voted against those points.

The Socialists also failed to win support for a request to disclose the criteria behind the decision not to renew the programme.
