Mallorca PP-Vox Senate pact fuels housing row
In Palma, Mallorca, on 27 October 2026, a PP-Vox Senate pact sparks a clash over house prices and a promised tourism tax rise in the Balearic parliament. Balearic president Marga Prohens defends the deal as socialist opposition spokesman Iago Negueruela challenges her government’s record.
Why Prohens backs the pact
Prohens says the People’s Party (PP) wants to bring together voters who want Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez out of office and before a judge. The agreement with Vox, she insists, does not mean the PP is giving up its name or principles.
Negueruela counters that the PP announced its Senate lists at national level. He attacks its alliance with Vox, while Prohens accuses his party of fearing the loss of Senate seats.
House prices and the tourism tax
Negueruela asks Prohens whether she knows anyone who can afford to buy a home at current prices. He says her government is taking no action on housing and has failed to deliver its announced rise in the Sustainable Tourism Tax.
Prohens says her government has fulfilled 97 per cent of its programme. She also challenges Negueruela over a possible gathering in Palma on Friday, comparing it with protests in Barcelona.
