Spain’s deadline for Senate candidacies falls on Monday, 26 October, and the People’s Party (PP) and Vox are still negotiating. They have yet to agree how to contest seats in the Senate, Spain’s upper house. Vox politician Jorge Buxadé says there is still time for a deal.

The talks are a response to an agreement by the Socialist party (PSOE), Frente Amplio and regional left-wing parties to run together for the Senate. Vox says it has ruled out no option, while party leader Santiago Abascal and other senior figures have given no details of the negotiations.

One possibility is that Vox does not stand in provinces where it would win no Senate seats. Another is for the PP to hand over Senate seats allocated to Spain’s autonomous communities. Buxadé, speaking to Herrera en Cope, suggested the parties could still reach an agreement before the deadline. None has been announced.
