In Palma, Mallorca, people still live in the old prison’s outbuildings, but the city has approved a plan to demolish them. Work cannot begin until the buildings are cleared. On 8 October, Unidas Podemos warned that this could mean another eviction.

Council member Lucía Muñoz said the city plans to spend more than €423,000 tearing down the buildings to make way for a roundabout. She urged the council not to leave those living there without somewhere to live.

The party says the first eviction at the old prison left hundreds of people on the street. Muñoz said social groups had criticised the lack of housing alternatives then. She warned that the same thing could happen again when the outbuildings are cleared.
