Palma, Mallorca: Balearic president Marga Prohens faces no election penalty for what she said in a parliamentary debate on 20 and 21 October. Spain’s Central Electoral Commission has rejected appeals by the PSIB, according to Sandra Fernández, secretary-general of the Balearic People’s Party.

The PSIB had already lost its complaints before the provincial election board. Fernández said the central commission regarded the general policy debate as normal parliamentary business. Prohens’ statements there are protected as parliamentary speech, she said, so their content cannot be grounds for an election penalty.

The central commission also declined to open a sanctions case against Prohens, Fernández said. It considered the provincial board’s measures sufficient over the later sharing of some content through official Balearic government channels. Fernández called the decision a second defeat for the PSIB and accused it of trying to stop Prohens explaining her policies.
