Balearic housing row: Prohens’s 100-day claims attacked
In Palma, Mallorca, opposition MP Josep Castells says housing measures that Balearic president Marga Prohens presents as taken within 100 days are still only plans. Speaking after her general policy debate speech on 20 October, the Més per Menorca politician called her record on housing a failure and questioned her credibility.
Castells said Prohens had blurred the line between completed work and ideas. He pointed to the planned conservatory in Maó, Menorca, which he said had not even been drawn up. He also argued that the tax cuts and grants for study abroad she highlighted reached very few people and did little to tackle deeper problems.
His party did welcome one announcement: a proposed legal change to put money from the Sustainable Tourism Tax towards housing policy. Castells said Més per Menorca had proposed that step itself. He claimed Prohens took offence when the party applauded it, calling the announcement a reversal of her earlier policy.
