In Palma, Mallorca, Marga Prohens calls on young People’s Party members to campaign for the 29 November general election. She makes the appeal on Sunday, 25 October, at the closing event of the Balearic party’s Nuevas Generaciones youth group.

“Ballot boxes are empty, and polls don’t fill them,” Prohens says, according to a party statement. The Balearic People’s Party leader says her party is the strongest political force among young people and urges members to become campaigners.

First-home tax cuts

Prohens also defends her proposal to scrap two regional taxes on first-home purchases for people under 36 and people with disabilities. The taxes on property transfers and documented legal acts would be halved for buyers aged 36 to 40.

She says tax measures already introduced have saved more than 6,000 families and young people a total of €85 million on their first homes. More than 2,000 buyers under 30 paid no tax on those purchases, she says. Funding for public guarantees under the Nueva Hipoteca Joven scheme is set to rise from €30 million to €45 million.

More buses and night trains

Prohens also outlines a planned €25 million boost for public transport, including 24 new buses for the Balearic interurban network, TIB. She promises more frequent services and night buses, with night trains planned for weekends and the evenings before public holidays.
