Palma joins forces over prostitution

Palma has brought courts, police, health services and charities together to improve care for women in prostitution on Mallorca. The second coordination meeting took place on Thursday, 24 September, marking the International Day Against Sexual Exploitation and the Trafficking of Women and Children. The Balearic High Court and the Islands Bar Association joined the group for the first time.

The meeting reviewed work from recent months and set out further action to improve care for women in prostitution. Representatives from the Red Cross, Casal Petit, Doctors of the World, the National Police, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, IB-Salut, IBDona, the University of the Balearic Islands, Palma City Council and Felib also attended.

Mallorca’s island council first set up the group in 2025. Since then, it has created a technical working group and held regular sessions with specialist organisations.

Health access and shared assessments

The work has brought charities, prosecutors, the National Police and the Civil Guard together to agree common standards for reports assessing vulnerability. A direct communication channel with IB-Salut has also been created to deal with problems women may face when trying to access the public health system.

Toni Fuster, Mallorca’s councillor for the presidency, said each new participant adds knowledge and experience. He said the forum gives organisations working directly with women a lasting route to raise needs and difficulties, helping institutions understand a reality he described as complex and changing.
