In Palma, Mallorca, the PSIB calls for direct aid for 190,000 seasonal workers across the Balearic Islands as fuel prices rise. Its parliamentary spokesman, Iago Negueruela, makes the demand on 21 October during the Balearic Islands parliament’s general policy debate. He warns that workers on permanent seasonal contracts face unemployment or rely on benefits in winter and may struggle to get by.

Negueruela wants the regional government to help families with incomes below 30,000 euros and waive all university tuition fees. He also proposes aid for distribution, agriculture, fishing and the food sector.

He wants parliament to pass a citizens’ bill next week to create a Balearic scheme that tops up public pensions. One aim is to bring the lowest pensions up to the statutory minimum wage. Negueruela accuses regional president Marga Prohens of inaction and a lack of ideas.
