PSOE accuses PP of neglecting Sant Antoni de Portmany administration

The Spanish Socialist Workers’ Party (PSOE) has accused the People’s Party (PP) of neglecting municipal administration in Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza, amid internal disputes. On 22 August, the opposition group called on mayor Marcos Serra and councillor for public safety Neus Mateu to explain their actions and accept responsibility.

The PSOE linked its criticism to a party held in s’Arenal during the eclipse, claiming that Sant Antoni was left without local police officers for a period despite a large gathering of people. The party said it had warned of a possible collapse beforehand, but Serra had dismissed those concerns as alarmist before later saying he would not authorise the event again.

The socialists said the controversy had exposed a conflict lasting more than a year between the governing team and the Local Police. They argued that the dispute was more serious than the PP had acknowledged.

PSOE councillor Neus Marí said criticism of Serra had emerged from within the municipal police force, while the mayor had defended Mateu. Marí questioned whether Mateu backed Serra or agreed with the allegations against him, and raised the possibility of a power struggle within the PP in Sant Antoni.
