Marratxí gets green light for 60 public homes

Sixty public homes in Marratxí have been cleared for construction, with another six approved in Capdepera. The Balearic Government gave the go-ahead on Friday under its emergency plan for more affordable homes for island residents. The projects will be built by the Balearic Housing Institute, Ibavi.

Both schemes had already received regional-interest status, a designation that puts public housing through a faster planning process. Friday’s decisions now authorise the building work.

The fast-track route cuts the time needed to process public housing schemes. It also applies to infrastructure such as schools and health centres.

Across the islands, 41 Ibavi developments containing 950 public homes benefit from the same process, which was added to the government’s emergency plan by law in the middle of last year. The government is pursuing more than 1,500 public homes in new Ibavi schemes for people who have lived in the Balearics for at least five years, with preference given to residents of the municipality concerned.
