Mallorca public housing row over councillor's son
Mallorca public housing row: the son of a People's Party (PP) councillor gets one of 29 public flats in Sa Cabana, Marratxí, Mallorca, and MÉS per Marratxí asks prosecutors to examine how the homes were allocated. The party made the request on Friday, 6 November 2026. It says doubts about other allocations and difficulty obtaining council records make an independent review necessary.
The records MÉS wants checked
MÉS wants prosecutors to consider opening an investigation. If they do, the party asks them to obtain the full allocation records from the Balearic Housing Institute (Ibavi) and Marratxí council.
MÉS spokeswoman Aina Amengual says Mayor Jaume Llompart's explanations have not settled the matter. She wants the records to show how applicants were ranked, particularly under rules concerning how long they had lived in Marratxí, and what role the council and Ibavi played.
Doubts about another flat
The party also raises questions about a second allocation that may involve someone with family links to the partner of a PP councillor. MÉS says it is not accusing any family of wrongdoing. It wants to know whether every applicant faced the same rules and whether family or political ties gave anyone an advantage.
Amengual says some families have waited years for a chance at a home. She says prosecutors and the courts must decide whether any crime was committed. If the allocations were handled properly, the records will show it, she says; if not, any irregularities must be addressed.
