Ibiza adds 103 public nursery places in Eivissa
Eivissa, Ibiza, gains 103 public nursery places: the expanded Can Cantó nursery offers 67 new places for children up to three, while CEIP Can Misses adds 36 for two- to three-year-olds. Balearic education minister Antoni Vera and Eivissa mayor Rafael Triguero visited Can Cantó on 5 October, after the building work was completed.
Eivissa council carried out the Can Cantó expansion, which cost 3.7 million euros. The Balearic education department contributed 844,200 euros through a scheme funded by the Spanish education ministry and the European Union. Can Cantó now has two rooms for children under one, three for one- to two-year-olds and four for two- to three-year-olds.
Before the Can Cantó visit, early-years director-general Neus Riera saw the rooms prepared for the new service at CEIP Can Misses. Both sites belong to the nursery network run directly by the Balearic education department. The regional government now runs 31 centres for children up to three across the Balearic Islands, compared with four in 2023. Vera also noted that the regional government has made education for this age group free.
