34 public rental homes set to double Es Mercadal stock
Es Mercadal on Menorca is set to gain 34 public rental homes, more than doubling the local stock managed by the Balearic Islands Housing Institute, Ibavi. Ibavi published the construction tender on 26 September 2026 for homes reserved for people living in the municipality. The development will take the public housing total from 30 to 64.
The block is planned for Avenida Ronda de ses Costes, on the corner with Avenida del Mestre Garí. Ibavi bought the plot from Sareb, with a €1 million contribution from the Consell de Menorca.
€9.7 million build with fast-track approval
The works carry a budget of €9.7 million, funded through European Feder money for 2021-2027 and a contribution from the Consell de Menorca under its agreement with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda.
The project has been classed as an investment of autonomous interest. That allows an express process intended to cut the time needed to handle public housing construction.
It forms part of the Balearic Government's affordable-housing plan in Menorca, where Ibavi has more than 250 public homes planned in new developments.
One to three bedrooms and 34 parking spaces
Plans include 15 one-bedroom homes, 17 with two bedrooms and two with three bedrooms. Three of the 34 homes will be adapted for people with disabilities.
The building will have a basement, ground floor and two upper floors, along with 34 parking spaces.
