Palma: Ràdio Orate puts mental health users on air

People using Ràdio Orate in Palma put their questions to Balearic social welfare minister Sandra Fernández and social welfare director Marina Fiscaletti during a broadcast on 16 September. Ràdio Orate is Fundación Deixalles' radio project for people with a mental health diagnosis. The ministry says it is part of a community rehabilitation service.

Support in Palma and Calvià

The Directorate-General for Dependency Care and People with Disabilities has commissioned 17 places in the daytime rehabilitation service. It is intended to help people with a severe mental health diagnosis move into social and working life, with tailored support for daily activities and for building personal, social and work-readiness skills.

At Deixalles Calvià, the directorate has also commissioned 22 places in a community socio-educational support service. The specialist service offers guidance and support to help people improve their quality of life at home and their integration in the local community.

Funding for radio and inclusion centre

Ràdio Orate received funding in 2025 to buy computer equipment, drawn from the 0.7% share of income tax receipts.

Fernández and Fiscaletti also visited the site of Deixalles' future social inclusion and waste prevention centre in Calvià. The Balearic government has granted €2.5 million towards construction under its 2022-2031 investment programme.

The Directorate-General for Social Welfare has also allocated more than €267,000 to the Deixalles for Inclusion project for 2024-2026, which supports vulnerable people to improve their employability and quality of life.
