Heavy rain limits Formentera hospital surgery again
Heavy rain again restricts surgery at the Hospital de Formentera: its operating theatres now handle only emergencies and births. On Friday 6 November, health minister Manuela García says the Health Department will bring forward a planned overhaul of the surgical area.
A storm in mid-October first forced the hospital to limit surgery. Workers then carried out maintenance and reinforcement above the ceiling, along with isolation and disinfection work. But further heavy rain has brought back the same restrictions.
García says the department will put the full overhaul out to tender through an emergency contract. Until the work is done, the operating theatres remain open for emergency procedures and births.
