Mallorca rain: Palma parks shut until Tuesday morning
Palma, Mallorca, keeps its parks and gardens closed until Tuesday morning despite easing its heavy-rain alert. Palma City Council lowers its municipal emergency plan from the red emergency phase to alert level 0 on Monday afternoon, 19 October, but keeps precautions in place as the weather develops. It also cancels municipal cultural and sporting activities, while libraries, neighbourhood centres, sports centres and swimming pools remain closed.
On Sunday night, the council opened the Germans Escales sports centre as a shelter for 36 people living in settlements in flood-prone parts of the city. Mayor Jaime Martínez monitored the weather system Adam on Sunday and Monday.
The council says most restrictions will last until Tuesday morning. Can Terrers and sa Ribera park will stay closed beyond then.
