Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, faces an orange rain alert on Thursday, while thunderstorms carry a yellow warning. The Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has also issued yellow warnings for rain and storms on Menorca, another Balearic island.

For the Balearics, Aemet forecasts patches of cloud and the chance of an isolated shower. Mist and fog banks are possible, temperatures should change little, and moderate easterly winds are expected along the coasts.

Cold air high above and moist air from the Mediterranean are making eastern and north-eastern Spain unsettled. The forecast’s warning of potentially torrential downpours applies to coastal areas around Valencia and Castellón, southern Tarragona and northern Alicante — not Mallorca.
