Mallorca rain warning: up to 20 l/m2 on Friday
Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, faces up to 20 l/m2 of rain in an hour on Friday: a yellow warning covers the island’s south and the Serra de Tramuntana from 10.00 to 20.00. On Thursday, 1 October, showers and thunderstorms are possible across the islands, with heavier rain forecast after 14.00. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has issued a yellow warning for up to 30 l/m2 in an hour.
Rain overnight was light, staying below 0.5 l/m2. Friday also brings an orange warning for Ibiza and Formentera. Aemet says rain could become torrential in places across the Balearic Islands. Its spokesperson, María José Guerrero, says cold air high above is meeting warm, damp air from the east near the ground.
Cloudy or overcast skies are forecast for Saturday and Sunday, with showers and thunderstorms still possible. Another weather disturbance may arrive on Monday. Temperatures are expected to fall by one or two degrees.
