Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, faces up to 20 litres of rain per square metre in an hour on Sunday: a yellow weather warning runs from 12.00 to 20.00 in the Serra de Tramuntana and the island’s north and north-east. The warning covers Menorca for the same hours. Thunderstorms are also possible, according to Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

The unsettled weather stretches across much of Spain. Catalonia faces a red alert, while the agency expects showers and thunderstorms in wide areas of the mainland. On the Balearic Islands, winds are forecast to be moderate and easterly. Palma could still reach 29°C.
