Mallorca's west defies Spain's 37% rain shortfall
Western Mallorca, in Spain’s Balearic Islands, has more rain than usual from the start of October to 3 November, even as Spain as a whole falls 37 per cent short. Ibiza is wetter than usual too, but Menorca is below normal. The figures come from Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
Across Spain, 53 litres per square metre falls over the period, compared with the usual 84 litres per square metre. The mainland shows a similar divide: Catalonia and the Mediterranean coast are wetter than normal, while the western half and much of the interior are drier.
Rain reaches the Balearic Islands from 28 October to 3 November. The Ibiza/Es Codolà weather station records 26 litres per square metre in those days. On 4 November, rain is recorded across the eastern half of mainland Spain.
