Mallorca rape trial opens as prosecutors seek 10 years

A man is due before a court in Palma on Monday at 10.00, accused of raping his flatmate while she slept at a home in Mallorca. Prosecutors are seeking 10 years in prison and 20,000 euros in compensation. The Second Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands will hear the case.
The prosecution says the alleged assault took place in the early hours of 23 October 2022. It alleges that the defendant took advantage of the woman being asleep. The case is classified by prosecutors as sexual aggression.
According to the prosecution, the woman suffered physical injuries that did not need medical treatment, as well as psychological, emotional and affective harm.
