Mallorca: 300 teachers meet to improve reading
Mallorca hosts 300 teachers from across the Balearic Islands on 13 and 14 November: at the Palacio de Congresos in Palma, they will look at ways to help pupils read and understand texts. The Balearic Ministry of Education and Universities is organising the congress.
Héctor Ruiz Martín will give the opening talk. Neus Sanmartí will look at how schools assess reading comprehension across different subjects, while Guadalupe Jover will discuss routes through literary and other texts. Eva Quirós will present a school reading plan designed to help staff work together on improving pupils’ reading.
On 13 November, ten practical workshops across two sessions will cover difficulties in learning to read, ways to understand texts and language games for lessons. A round-table discussion will give schools a chance to share their experiences and ideas. The congress ends on 14 November with its conclusions and an artistic closing event by Pere Mascaró and a group of sixth-form pupils.
