Mallorca firms face red-tape cuts under Balearic law
Mallorca’s shops, small businesses and self-employed workers could spend less time on paperwork under a Balearic Government drive to speed up official procedures. Maria Antònia Sansó, the Director General for Business, the Self-Employed and Trade, set out the plan at a meeting of regional trade directors in Barcelona on 18 September. The government says simpler administration can help businesses compete.
The focus is on reducing the procedures and bureaucratic burdens that weigh most heavily on smaller firms and sole traders. Sansó said businesses should be able to devote more time to their work and less to bureaucracy.
Law 4/2026 backs faster procedures
The drive forms part of the government’s wider simplification strategy, reinforced by Law 4/2026. The law includes urgent measures intended to speed up strategic projects, alongside steps to simplify and streamline administration.
Among the measures being developed is wider use of formal declarations and advance notifications. The government says this should help businesses get activities under way and develop them more quickly.
Digital support for shops
The Balearic Government is also working on new partnerships with chambers of commerce, professional bodies and business organisations. It wants those links to make dealings between companies and public administration easier, cut paperwork and speed up case handling.
At the Barcelona meeting, the autonomous communities exchanged experience on the pressures facing trade. The Balearic Government is backing digitalisation, shop modernisation and new tools to help small retail businesses adapt to changing market needs.
