Mallorca: Only 15 to 19 of 30 women's refuge flats open
On the island of Mallorca, only 15 to 19 of 30 promised refuge flats for women facing violence and their children are open, according to MÉS per Mallorca. The party said on Monday, 5 October 2026, that it will ask the Mallorca Island Council at its next plenary meeting to complete the housing scheme and widen support for women.
Aurora's missing flats
Project Aurora was announced in 2023 with plans for up to 30 flats across Mallorca and places for up to 101 women and children. Three years later, the party's motion says only 15 to 19 flats are operating. MÉS wants the full pledge met.
Help closer to home
The motion also calls for psychological support and specialist legal advice in more municipalities, particularly in the Part Forana area. MÉS proposes two dedicated services for women facing violence alongside homelessness or active drug use, linked to social, health, housing and addiction services.
The party points to demand at the Women's Information Centre: in the first nine months of 2026, it recorded 847 consultations, including 780 new cases, and made 247 referrals for psychological support. MÉS also wants the island council to give municipalities more technical help in coordinating their response to violence against women.
