Mallorca, Balearic Islands: MÉS per Mallorca wants rents capped across the islands. In Palma on Monday, 28 September, the party urged the regional government to declare the Balearics a ‘stressed housing area’ — an area where housing is under strain — so it can limit rents.

The party’s parliamentary spokesman, Lluís Apesteguia, said there were ‘dozens of Maricármenes’ on the islands. He was referring to an 87-year-old woman evicted from her home in Madrid last week.

Apesteguia called for housing policy that serves ‘ordinary’ people instead of putting the profits of ‘a privileged few’ first.
