Two more years on rental contracts: the Spanish government’s housing decree faces opposition from PP, Vox and Junts in the Congress of Deputies in Madrid on Friday, 2 October. It would also stop evictions of vulnerable people. All three parties had declared their opposition before the debate.

PP’s Juan Bravo says the decree fails to tackle a shortage of more than 700,000 homes. He says housing prices rose 74% between 2018 and 2026, while rents climbed 45%. Carlos Hernández Quero of Vox argues that the measures would drive homes off the market and push prices higher.

Junts spokeswoman Miriam Nogueras wants the government to withdraw the decree and negotiate new measures. She says it would neither stop speculation nor prevent evictions, and calls instead for rules that bring more homes onto the market. The parties have made their positions clear, but no vote or result is reported.
