Mallorca rent rises: Socialists seek new limits

Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, faces a renewed bid to limit rent rises: the Balearic parliament debates a Socialist proposal next Tuesday. PSIB parliamentary spokesman Iago Negueruela set out the plan in Palma, Mallorca, on Wednesday, 30 September. He says many evictions stem from rent increases.
The proposal would allow areas of the Balearic Islands to be declared pressured housing markets, opening the way to limits on rent increases. Negueruela wants the Balearic regional government to let councils use the rules if they choose.
He says the vote will show whether parliamentary groups side with workers or with what he calls “vulture funds”.
