Mallorca rent rules: MÉS backs relief, wants more
Eviction protection extends to 2030 under two housing decrees Spain’s government approves on Tuesday. In Palma, Mallorca, MÉS per Mallorca parliamentary spokesman Lluís Apesteguia welcomes the immediate help but says the housing market needs deeper change. He says people who have to leave their homes need an urgent response.
The decrees also regulate seasonal lets and room rentals. They bar funds dubbed “vulture funds” from buying homes until 2028 and give existing rental contracts due to end before 31 December 2028 a two-year extension.
Apesteguia wants housing treated as a social right, not just something to buy and sell. He says the decrees do not fully make that shift. He also objects to splitting the measures into two texts, with one at risk of failing to win enough support in Spain’s Congress.
