Eivissa repair hub tackles 655.5kg rubbish per head

Everyday objects in Eivissa, Ibiza, can be brought in for repair from this month under a new project designed to keep them in use for longer. ReparaLab is being run by Ibiza&Formentera Preservation and Fundación Deixalles until the end of the year. Its first session is on Friday 25 September at Fundación Deixalles.

Eivissa generated 655.5 kilos of waste per person in 2024, according to Ibiza&Formentera Preservation. That was 14 per cent above the Balearic average.

Tools and advice for repair jobs

The open repair space runs from 17.30 to 19.30 and needs no advance booking. People can bring an item they want to fix, use the tools available and get technical advice.

Sessions are also planned for Friday 30 October, 27 November and 18 December.

Clothing workshop starts the programme

Each date also includes a workshop on a particular type of repair, running from 17.30 to 19.00. These workshops require booking through info@ibizapreservation.org.

The first, on 25 September, focuses on repairing and transforming clothing. ReparaLab forms part of Ibiza & Formentera Preservation's circular economy programme, which aims to make repair a practical option again.
