Mallorca Research Night opens at Palma port at 18.00

Research Night begins on Mallorca at 18.00 on Friday, when Palma’s Moll Vell hosts its main opening. Talks and science activities will also take place on Menorca and Eivissa, led by researchers from Balearic academic institutions. Dr Jeroni Galmés, a professor at the University of the Balearic Islands, and Dr Amparo Lázaro, a staff scientist at the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies, will give the opening address.

The Balearic Islands Ministry of Education and Universities announced the programme on Tuesday. The event forms part of the European Researchers’ Night, a European Union initiative held in more than 26 countries and 400 European cities to show the range of science and its effect on people’s lives.

Sea, stars and ancient Egypt

Menorca’s programme takes place at the Jaume Ferrer Research Station in La Mola and focuses on studying the sea and astronomy.

On Eivissa, the Archaeological Museum of Eivissa and Formentera will host a talk by its curator, Esther Pons, on Ancient Egypt. Other participating public research centres include the Balearic Oceanographic Centre, the Coastal Observation and Forecasting System, the Spanish National Research Council in the Balearics and the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain.
