Balearic Islands' €5m research project could help more staff
More researchers and technical staff across the Balearic Islands could benefit from a €5 million research project after the regional government approved a change on Friday, 9 October 2026. The project can now cover additional costs for doctoral training and hiring technicians to support research. Its money comes from the 2023 annual plan of the Sustainable Tourism Tax.
The change follows a request from the Balearic Ministry of Education and Universities to make better use of the money, government spokesperson Antoni Costa said. It shifts planned spending between staff and scientific and technical infrastructure to reflect how the project ran in 2024 and 2025. The government is also revising its plans for 2026. The new eligible costs could increase the final number of researchers and technical staff who benefit across the islands.
