Spain’s 45-day plan speeds residency applications

Spain has launched a 45-day staffing drive to speed up residence applications linked to its extraordinary regularisation process. Voluntary staff at immigration offices across the country will take on extra administrative work. The plan does not set a deadline for individual applications; it limits the reinforcement scheme itself to 45 days.

Spain’s Official State Gazette published the agreement on Thursday. It links the Directorate-General for Migration Management with the Directorate-General for the State Administration in the Territory.

Extra hands for residency files

Officials taking part can work on applications regardless of where they were originally submitted. Their tasks include checking personal details, entering data and requesting police or court records.

The arrangement moves practical and technical work between the two bodies, but does not transfer responsibility for deciding the cases. The government says it is using available staff and technical resources more efficiently.

Voluntary work outside normal duties

Participation is voluntary and takes place outside employees’ usual responsibilities. The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration will provide funding for productivity payments once the Ministry of Finance approves it.

A joint monitoring commission will oversee the scheme and the spending on those payments. It will automatically disband when the 45-day plan ends.
