Mallorca: 15 women over 45 train for retail jobs
Palma, Mallorca: 15 women over 45 start a month-long course on Monday, 5 October 2026, to improve their chances of getting retail jobs. The pilot programme, Reinvéntate +45, takes place at the Balearic Employment Service’s Centre for Career Guidance, Entrepreneurship, Support and Innovation for Employment. It aims to match the women’s experience with the skills local businesses need.
Digital skills and confidence
The women will practise digital tasks and learn how to manage sales points and stock. The course also covers self-esteem, emotional barriers and impostor syndrome — the feeling that they are not good enough for the work they do.
The Balearic government’s Department of Labour, Public Service and Social Dialogue says the aim is to help participants find work and stay in employment.
Employers to meet participants
After the course, businesses in the sectors involved will join talks with the women to help them move into work, particularly ahead of the Black Friday and Christmas sales periods. The programme also points to opportunities in local shops, hospitality, restaurants, and stock and warehouse management.
It fits the Balearic Quality Employment Plan for 2026–2028, which identifies long-term unemployment among women over 45 as a challenge for the islands’ labour market.
