Mallorca’s RIU Hotels & Resorts now has its first hotel in Barcelona, Spain: it has bought the 465-room Princesa Sofía after searching for a suitable property for more than a decade. The hotel has 19 floors and one of the city’s largest event and meeting centres. RIU takes over its management on 1 April 2027.

The Princesa Sofía stands on Avinguda Joan XXIII in the Les Corts-Pedralbes district, a few metres from Avinguda Diagonal and beside Camp Nou. It previously belonged to Blasson Property Investments and BNP Paribas Asset Management Alts.

The hotel will become the 14th property in RIU Plaza, the chain’s city-hotel brand. RIU Plaza already has hotels in London, New York and Chicago.
