Balearic bronze medallist races at Para Triathlon Worlds

Balearic Paralympic bronze medallist Nil Riudavets races at the Para Triathlon World Championships in Pontevedra on Friday as part of Spain’s 14-strong team. He competes in PTS4, a class for athletes with physical impairments who race standing. Riudavets arrives as reigning world and European runner-up.

Spain’s team is headed by Susana Rodríguez and her guide, Sara Pérez, in the PTVI class for visually impaired triathletes. Rodríguez, a Paralympic champion in Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, is aiming for an eighth world title.

Dani Molina, the Paris 2024 champion, also races in the standing classes. He took European silver and world bronze in his latest major events. Lionel Morales joins them after finishing fifth at the European Championships and seventh at the World Championships.

Eva Moral is Spain’s only entrant in PTWC. She uses a handbike for the cycling section and a wheelchair for the run, with Ángel Salamanca again assisting her during transitions. Her race starts at 10.50.

The athletes face a 750-metre swim in the River Lérez, followed by 20 kilometres on the bike over four laps with two climbs. The final 5 kilometres are run over three flat laps. A mixed relay follows on Sunday 27.
