Palma clears 19.7 tonnes of rubbish in 10-day sweep

Palma has cleared 19.7 tonnes of rubbish in a 10-day clean-up across eight neighbourhoods. The special operation, run by the municipal company Emaya under its Palma a Punt scheme, covered Arxiduc, Plaça de Toros, Son Oliva, s’Olivera, Amanecer, Cas Capiscol, Camp Redó and Bons Aires. Crews worked morning and afternoon shifts.

Streets, bins and graffiti tackled

Teams washed down almost 427,000 square metres of streets, cleaned 1,415 litter bins and 1,076 waste containers, and removed 25 pieces of graffiti. They also blew debris from streets, collected dumped items and abandoned rubbish, and cleaned the bins and containers inside and out.

Grass was cut back along 23,683 metres of pavements and kerbs.

Eight neighbourhoods, 71,400 people

The eight neighbourhoods cover four square kilometres and contain more than 30,000 homes, with 71,400 residents in total.

Palma City Council said Palma a Punt brings different cleaning teams and equipment into one neighbourhood at a time, matching specialist work to the needs found there. The aim is to give streets and public spaces a more thorough clean.
