Fatal s'Estanyol accident prompts nautical sector talks
The Balearic association representing small and medium-sized nautical businesses, Apanib, has requested an urgent meeting of the Mesa Náutica following the fatal s'Estanyol accident off s'Estanyol, Llucmajor, Mallorca. A 69-year-old man died in the incident on Tuesday.
Apanib said any discussion of possible regulatory changes should wait until the circumstances have been established. The Guardia Civil is investigating the case.
The association expressed its condolences to the man's family and friends, saying the immediate priority should be respect for those affected by the loss. It urged maritime businesses not to make premature demands or use the incident to press individual interests.
Apanib formally asked the Balearic Ministry of the Sea and Water Cycle, the Conselleria del Mar i del Cicle de l'Aigua, to convene the Mesa Náutica. It said the body should examine the case once official findings are available and consider any steps needed to improve prevention.
The association also said it would support the authorities during the investigation and called for restraint and unity within the sector.
