Mallorca rescue helicopter can land at hospitals

Mallorca’s rescue helicopter sa Milana can evacuate casualties and land at the island’s healthcare centres when an urgent operation requires it. Bomberos de Mallorca confirmed on Thursday that the aircraft meets the technical and legal requirements for those missions. The statement followed a complaint by the Sindicato Libre de Trabajadores Aéreos to the European Aviation Safety Agency.

Aviation rules for rescue services and civil protection include specific exemptions allowing sa Milana to land at hospital sites and other restricted areas in urgent cases, the island authority said.

The helicopter does not carry out routine medical transfers. Instead, it rescues and evacuates people from places that the 061 health emergency service cannot easily reach by land.

Bomberos de Mallorca said it works permanently alongside 061, with the coordination intended to provide an immediate and effective response anywhere on the island. It said sa Milana is fully authorised for rapid, specialised evacuations.
