Mallorca fire helicopter sa Milana completes 183 missions
The Mallorca Fire Service helicopter sa Milana completed 183 rescue and emergency missions across the island in its first year of operation, the Council of Mallorca said on 21 August 2026. In Palma, Mallorca, the island authority said the aircraft has strengthened responses to incidents in difficult-to-reach areas.
Sa Milana was used particularly for mountain rescues during its first 12 months. It can also support firefighting, carry personnel and equipment, and provide aerial observation, coordination and operational assistance during emergencies.
The helicopter can help prevent and tackle fires through water drops and surveillance work. Its role also includes quickly moving specialist crews and technical equipment to incident sites, while aerial monitoring supports command and coordination on the ground.
Rafel Bosch, the Council of Mallorca's councillor for Finance, Innovation and Public Service, said the authority would continue providing the Mallorca Fire Service with technical and human resources to protect both residents and rescue crews. Island Emergency Director Joan Fornàs said such investment improves the service's ability to respond to emergencies and rescues anywhere on Mallorca.
