Mallorca pupils are taking their call for safer journeys to school onto the streets of Coll d'en Rabassa in Palma on Friday. Students, the school community and local people will walk through the neighbourhood to Son Parera park. They set off at 09.00 from CEIP Guillem Lladó Coll primary school.

They want easier access to schools at drop-off and pick-up times, more speed checks and a better connection between Institut Nou Llevant and Coll d'en Rabassa. At 11.00, the pupils will eat and read out a statement setting out the neighbourhood’s transport and safety demands.

The Espiral Association, one of the organisers, said on Thursday that the walk is part of European Mobility Week. It was postponed until Friday because of the weather.

The Coll d'en Rabassa Safe Environment Commission is organising the walk. It brings together local schools, the neighbourhood association, pupils’ family associations and a community intervention project to work towards a safer, healthier area for students.
