Sánchez urges Spain to put homes before tourism

Homes before tourist use: Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez urges every Spanish region to apply the national housing law as he speaks in Barcelona, Spain, on Monday, 28 September. He says the law lets regions give homes for people to live in priority over tourist use, with the aim of increasing affordable housing.

Catalonia already applies the law, Sánchez says. He argues that governments need to steer the housing market so young people can make plans for their lives.

The call includes all of Spain’s regions, but Sánchez says nothing about a separate housing decree his government is negotiating with its partners. The government intends to approve that decree at Tuesday’s cabinet meeting.
