Ibiza's Sant Josep falls back on 1986 planning rules
Sant Josep on the island of Ibiza is back under planning rules from 1986: on Saturday, 3 October, animal welfare party Pacma demands answers from the town council. Its island coordinator, Olivier Hassler, wants to know why the council has not completed the process for provisional planning rules and what it will do now those rules have expired.
Pacma wants the reports and decisions from that process published, along with an account of the roles played by the town council and Ibiza Island Council. It says the old rules make it harder to plan for the municipality’s needs. The party is calling for a report on what the expiry means for land reserved for subsidised housing, public facilities and rules on tourist use.
Families looking for a home and neighbours waiting for basic services need certainty, not promises without deadlines, Hassler said. For updated rules, he wants limits on land use, protection for habitats and a detailed assessment of water availability and sewage capacity. He also wants development plans to consider their effects on wildlife and existing cat colonies, with preventive measures in place.
