Sant Josep planning rules lapse, PSOE warns of 40-year setback

Sant Josep de sa Talaia has lost its temporary planning rules, and the local PSOE says the lapse takes the municipality back 40 years in planning policy. The party blamed mayor Vicent Roig on 23 September, warning of consequences of “incalculable gravity”.

The PSOE says the expired rules had helped reserve land for protected housing and could be used to ban tourist lets in multi-family buildings. Those tools now fall away, according to the party.

The group says the application for the temporary planning rules was approved in November 2022. After Roig took office, it says, a new proposal was put forward without agreement and with unilateral, opaque changes.

The PSOE also criticises the parallel handling of the temporary rules and a new general urban development plan. It says this left people unsure whether to file objections to one document or suggestions on the other — and that Sant Josep Town Hall has answered neither.

Roig has done “absolutely nothing” in almost four years in office, the PSOE claims. The party says the result is a return to the planning framework of 1986.
