Menorca crash: man accused of trying to run woman over
In Palma, Mallorca, a man faces a preliminary court hearing on Tuesday, 6 October, after a crash in Sant Lluís, Menorca: prosecutors say he punched a woman and tried to run her over. She dodged his vehicle but injured her left leg in the incident on 16 March 2025.
A sudden stop, then an alleged attack
According to the prosecution, the man braked sharply while driving, causing the car behind to hit his vehicle. When the woman challenged him, he got out and punched her. He then got back in and tried to run her over, prosecutors say.
The man later got out of his van again and struck another vehicle that had stopped to help after the crash. He drove away and hit a building.
Prosecutors seek treatment and a driving ban
Prosecutors want the man’s licence withdrawn, about €2,400 in compensation for the woman and an order requiring him to undergo medical treatment.
They say he has a personality disorder and had taken 40 antidepressant tablets in a suicide attempt on the day of the incident. After waking and feeling unwell, he went to the psychiatry unit at Mateu Orfila Hospital. He was not seen and left, according to the prosecution, which says his ability to understand and control his actions was completely impaired at the time.
In Spain, people experiencing suicidal thoughts can call the Health Ministry’s 024 helpline or 112. The Teléfono de la Esperanza is available on 717003717, or 971461112 in the Balearics.
