€2m plan adds five new pier ends at Santa Eulària marina

Five new end structures are due to be fitted to pontoons at the marina in Santa Eulària des Riu, Ibiza, after Ports de Balears (PortsIB) gave the project final approval on 14 September 2026. The additions will sit at the outer ends of pontoons C, D, E, F and G. Marina concession-holder Merlin SA will cover the full €2 million cost.

The company will also pay an annual concession fee of €54,485.54 plus VAT. PortsIB said the plan does not amount to a substantial change to the port’s existing facilities.

Building timetable starts with site marking

Merlin SA has 15 days from notification of the approval to request permission to mark out the works on site. Once that setting-out record is approved, construction must begin within a further 15 days.

The work must be completed within the deadline set in the construction project. PortsIB will inspect the completed installation afterwards.

Twelve conditions protect the surrounding sea

PortsIB gave the construction project a favourable technical report on 1 September after it was drawn up in June 2026. Technical reports found it compatible with the Balearic Islands’ general ports plan.

The project also has a favourable report under the Marine Strategy for the Levantine-Balearic area, provided 12 conditions are met. They include appointing an environmental coordinator, monitoring the works, protecting wild species and nesting birds on nearby islets, and preventing the spread of non-native species.

The conditions also require steps to reduce murky water and underwater noise, manage waste properly and avoid accidental discharges.
