Mallorca break-in: thieves take 500 euros in Santa Maria

Two people allegedly smashed their way into a well-known vermouth bar in Santa Maria del Camí, Mallorca, on 21 August and took its cash register holding about 500 euros. The Guardia Civil has arrested a 40-year-old woman over the break-in. Officers are still looking for the second suspect.

The pair are said to have used a concrete drain cover to break the venue’s glass frontage before forcing their way inside, the Guardia Civil said. The investigation remains open and police have not ruled out another arrest.

Two occupied homes in Santa Maria del Camí were also burgled around the same time. Detectives first examined whether those thefts were linked to the break-in at the vermouth bar, but later ruled that out.

Police identified a 46-year-old man as the alleged offender in the home burglaries. He is already in prison after being detained over other offences and was also wanted by different Guardia Civil units over thefts at hotels and businesses elsewhere on Mallorca.
