Santiveri buckwheat toasts sent to the Balearic Islands contain gluten despite a ‘gluten-free’ label. Spain’s Food Safety and Nutrition Agency warned on Monday, 5 October, that people with health problems linked to gluten should not eat them.

The affected product is Santiveri Bio’s ‘Tostadas crujientes sarraceno’, sold in a 100-gram pack with a best-before date of 01/12/2027. The company found the problem during its own checks and reported it to the authorities.

The Balearic Islands were among the product’s initial destinations, alongside other parts of Spain. The agency says it may have been distributed further. It has sent the alert through Spain’s rapid food information exchange system so officials can check that affected packs have been withdrawn from sale.

For people without problems linked to gluten, the agency says the product poses no risk.
