247 Sareb jobs at risk as union sues over Casa 47

Madrid, Spain: A union is fighting in court for the jobs of 247 Sareb workers as Casa 47 prepares to take over management of some of the company’s property assets. The Central Sindical Independiente y de Funcionarios (CSIF) filed its claim on 29 September 2026, demanding that the public body take on the staff. CSIF says the government has announced that their contracts will end when Sareb stops operating, while it finalises a housing decree.

Who will do Sareb’s work?

CSIF argues that if Casa 47 takes over the work, it must take on the people doing it too, under Spanish and European labour rules. Otherwise, the union warns, Sareb’s staff face a collective dismissal while Casa 47 pays to recruit and train replacements for work they already do.

Sareb disputes the suggestion that it will close in 2027. Sources at the company say it will instead enter liquidation to finish its remaining work. CSIF had said in July that it would go to court after talks with Casa 47 failed.

Housing costs hit public-sector jobs

In a separate warning, CSIF says some public-sector workers are turning down newly secured posts or asking for leave because of housing costs in Madrid, Barcelona and the Balearic Islands.

The union wants pay supplements tied to the cost of living where staff work. It also wants a housing-related allowance extended to municipalities and provinces where housing prices are under pressure.
